During the election, the Prime Minister promised to significantly increase investment in community security through the Canada Community Security Program.

The federal budget did not include immediate additional investments and instead pointed to an ongoing review to improve the Canada Community Security Program, with outcomes and additional funding to be announced “in due course.”

We need to send the message that this must be pursued with urgency and a clear timeline.

Every day, Jewish Canadians take extraordinary measures to keep families and people safe, amidst the serious threats and growing extremism confronting our society.

Urge the Prime Minister: Our community’s security cannot wait.

During last spring’s election campaign, the Prime Minister committed to “significantly increase the annual budget of the Canada Community Security Program,” and told our community that “increased security costs amidst rising antisemitism should not be borne by the Jewish community alone.

The Canada Community Security Program is a vital program that supports life-saving preventative measures, security guards, and technologies for synagogues, schools, and community centres.

Over the past two years, violent extremism in Canada has intensified, targeting places of worship, schools, and cultural centres. At the centre of this surge are  Jewish Canadians, who are 25 times more likely to experience a hate crime than any other Canadian:

  • Schools shot at and vandalized.
  • Synagogues firebombed, desecrated, and defaced with hate symbols.
  • Community centres and Holocaust memorials marked with terrorist slogans.
  • Individuals harassed and assaulted simply for being Jewish.

These incidents are clear signals of escalating threats and of the urgent need to increase support for security personnel and protective measures that can prevent tragedy.

Yet the Federal Budget did not include additional investment.

Send the Prime Minister a message and tell him that our community security cannot wait.
